Lack of Sleep and Air-Conditioning Make you Fat

It's not just jumbo portions and lack of exercise. New research reveals that lack fo sleep and air-conditioning also cause weight gain.

According to a report published in the International Journal of Obesity, you may be putting on weight if you are not sleeping enough or if you live in an air-conditioned environment most of the time.

This is apart from the usual suspects: lack of exercise and large portion fast food meals. 

According to the researchers, lack of sleep leads to a spike in appetite and eating. Studies show that in recent times, more and more adults and children are sleeping less than eight hours. 

Studies also suggest that industrial chemicals from pesticides and plastics are finding their way into food and lead to obesity as they alter hormonal activity.

Then there is air-conditioning. According to researchers, the body burns caloreies when it has to regulate its own temperature. Individuals tend to eat less in hot weather and more in colder climes. Therefore, if the temperature is always cool, people eat a lot more than required.

Researchers, however, insist that this does not mean that exercise and diet are not important. But individuals should be aware of other obesity risks as well.
