Engelbert
Humperdinck of romantic ballads, panties, and sideburns to rock Mumbai.
Famous crooner, Engelbert Humperdinck, is slated to perform at the Jamshed Bhabha Auditorium on June 7, 2005. In this tour in which he will go to Delhi and Bangalore, Engelbert will perform a mix of old favourites such as
Release Me and new ones from his latest album Let There Be
Love.
Born Arnold Dorsey, he borrowed his name from the 1911 Austrian composer who wrote "Hansel & Gretel." A legend in the international music industry for the last thirty years, he has sold over 130 million records.Around 64 of his albums have gone gold and 23, platinum. He has recorded everything from romantic ballads to the theme song "Lesbian Seagull" for the latest Beavis and Butthead movie.
With four Grammy nominations, a Golden Globe for "Entertainer of the Year" (1988) and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Humperdinck might rest easy on his laurels. Hardly. In the past few years, he has joined in elite group of musical artists, such as Tony Bennett and Burt Bacarach, who have crossed over successfully to strike a new chord with a younger generation in addition to their core audiences.
Apart from his music, Humperdinck is famous for his sideburns and is also known as the undie-collecter--a result of the inevitable pelting of panties that greet him at all his concerts. We hope Mumbai greets him with panties and sideburns!
